I would consider myself here as an observer ( neither a supporter nor a detractor of Schapelle ) I was hoping for discussion of the issue , and am certainly not chasing any quarrel with anybody. Is this possible on this site ? as currently the majority of the posts i see are ignorant name calling, uninformed opinion and generalisations of the highest order from "Both sides " .

i wish to participate because i am fascinated by what drives the interest and especially peoples emotions in this case . This is why i joined ... i was hoping to be privvy to some enlightening comments or information i hadnt previously known about Schapelles case. I am yet to achieve this aim . And again, this is not meant to be a "broadside" but im truly fascinated to understand why differing opinions or comments are treated with such disdain and vitriol ?? interesting case study methinks in human psychology

Well, Schapelle is in jail for 20 years on an alleged drug trafficking charge. It is clearly a fact that Australians do not traffick to Indonesia. Though the Indonesians despise drugs, a very, very small minority grow their own and it's 10 times (maybe more) cheaper. The poor Indonesians have a serious drug problem over there. Yes, Australians buy the drugs from the Indonesians...they are cheap. Not all Australians though!! Some Australians are told "just for a few extra dollars you can get Aussie Gold". This is simply not true...........as forensics will prove that the expensive Aussie Gold is actually just Indonesian marijuana. Aussie marijuana is very expensive.........waaaaaay too expensive for budgeting holidaymakers - but it has given the dealers a marketing ploy to get more money by saying that it is Australian......when it isn't.

Mercedes could buy a cheap farm in Indonesia and farm it herself and call it Aussie Gold . She would make a lot more money this way........She's accused of getting her sister to drag 4 kg of marijuana from Australia (has never happened before in Indonesian history that Australians are importing marijuana).

The Bali 9, by the way, were taking drugs to Australia when they were caught. This is because heroin is very cheap in Indonesia.

Now, suddenly, a girl called Jodie who has been a friend for several years of the sister is saying that 'she lied' and that the Corbys are drug runners (including their poor old Mum). Jodie received over AUS$100,000 for her story and our police in Australia are not chasing her because they know she's lying. If she was telling the truth.............she'd be in jail for being an accessory to trafficking (with holding information, etc)

The Minister for Justice and Customs - Senator the Hon. Christopher Ellison has worked closely with the Indonesian authorities to arrange for the video link-up of a Victorian prisoner for Schapelle's trial in Bali to give evidence in Ms Corby's defence. The Hon. Chris Ellison has also assisted Ms Corby and her lawyers by contacting organisations in Australia such as QANTAS, that were seen by the defence team as being capable of assisting.

So, you can see that Schapelle is innocent. People have made a lot of money out of her; the newspapers, magazines, so-called friends of the family. I hope that you can kindly help her by writing messages of support and taking pen to paper to our Ministers............mainly, our Prime Minister!!

By the way, I'm just an 'old biddy housewife' who really is ashamed of how Australia has treated Schapelle and her family. I hope that once Schapelle is freed, we can all go about our business and have happy holidays in Bali again.

I do not believe for one second that australians ( as pure as we must be , haha) dont traffic drugs to indonesia . Hydroponic grass is infact highly sort after and quite expensive in Bali , i can say this from experience .

as far as i was made aware , both the AFP as well as former defence lawyers have publically stated that the corby's refused dna testing of the aforementioned weed. on the other side of this argument is shapelles books coauthor !! i think i know who i would believe first there.

im not even goin to address the comments regardsa buying a farm and growing it in indonesia .. thats a little too absurd for me to weigh in to that argument

i have absolutely no doubt that jodi powers more than likely has a screw loose somewhere in her head .. but i am not naive as to believe that the situation is as cut and dry , or b,lack and white as you paint it to be..

i am an australian and i for one am not ashamed of the way we (as a country ) have treated schapelle .. not one bit .. although i admit to be a little embarassed by some of the countries xenohpobic and hysterical reaction to her plight
i do believe in time we will all have the truth revealed to us ..
