I have just finished reading your book I am discusted in the injustice that has been done, I can't believe all the evidance that was missed or disregarded. I am still trying to find out though, why was it that schapelle didn't get "proper"legal representation??? From Australia?? surely all the signs are there for any decent lawyer to see that nothing was done properly, why isn't someone from OZ stepping in??? can someone please answe my question????

NEVER...not even once. As far as the Indonesian court [many people forget Bali is in Indonesia and run by the harsh bosses in Jakarta] was concerned, the drugs were in Schapelle's bag and that was the end of the matter....."guilty" in their eyes. The court just simply ignored all Schapelle's witnesses and the letter the Oz govt wrote them. The drugs were in Schapelle's bag...that is not contested. HOW they got there is being contested. Even cynics are now admitting there is much doubt about how they got there. Unfortunately, these Asian countries don't accept excuses if drugs are in your bag. Schapelle's just lucky it was Bali she went to and not Malaysia, Thailand or Singapore. There she could easily have been executed. We might have some luck in getting Schapelle back home from Indonesia and maybe a major sentence reduction...but we'd not be so "lucky" with Singapore or Malaysia, or Thailand. We could've sent 44 QC's and other top lawyers to advise her, but they're not allowed to practise in Indonesian courts, as far as I know. The anti-drug lobby In Bali were in the chief judges ear every day...cheering him into court...and he was holding interviews/meetings with them on the steps of the court. THEY were calling for the death penalty for her. I'm saying her sentence is racist and religionist...WHAT OTHER possible explanation can there be.....when worse Indonesian and other Asian drug smugglers and murderers are only getting a few years in jail, and the white Christian girl gets TWENTY years for a bag of marijuana! I totally agree - seems like such a set up. It would be nice if she could have an Australian trial. I just finished the book, I really care for this poor girl and maybe it won't be too long before justice will be done.

That's never going to happen: Not at all feasible considering she was charged in Bali Imagine what we would think here of an Indonesian charged with an offence here but insisting they be tried back there My readings and observations are that, early on, the Corby family may have made some very poor judgements re her legal team and support network |

The Corby family did the best they could for Schapelle with the advice and lawyers who were available.
They'd never been in this situation before. In hindsight...that magical thing called hindsight...they might have done things differently. What they DID do, by their actions and organisation...was STOP Schapelle from being sentenced to DEATH...as the anti-drug protestors stomping around Bali and the courthouse were demanding: "Corby death penalty" they were cheering for. The judges were 'holding court' with them at each trial day. Make NO mistake...the Corby family FOUGHT with all they had for their girl's life! So much so that people from all around the world joined in. http://www.dontshootschapelle.com/ Anyway, it wouldn't have mattered what the Corby family did or didn't do regarding lawyers, the Indonesian courts were always going to find Schapelle guilty....they accept no excuses or explanations or begging or extenuating evidence...if the drugs are in your bag...you're 'history'! People in Australia soon found THAT out. Schapelle was very lucky the drugs put in her bag were marijuana and not a huge bag of heroin....or she could well have been sentenced to death. Indonesia doesn't deserve tourists. |

... and the frightening thing is - it could have happened to anybody - the person who planted the drugs in the first place is more than likely not affected at all by an innocent person going to jail for 20 years... if they had a conscience, they wouldn't have done it in the first place ![]() |

This poor girl is being treated badly by sooooooooooo many people. Everyone seems to be taking advantage of her. I've nearly finished her book & I'm so shocked at what people can do to gain exposure & money.!
Her family have also been put thought the ringer & it's not fair at all.! These people should be treated to hotel K for a week & see how they feel. They should also realise how her judgement is not the same as when she went in & even her families, as they are all in such great pain. Where do people get off taking advantage of this horrible suitation. It's not right.! Just remember every dog has their day to all those jerks out there taking advantage of these people who are exhausted by this whole suitation. I could say a lot more, but know that there are only certain words I should say on this suite. |
